It works out coolant temperatures and oxygen levels, which it uses to gauge the base pulse. It then uses this base pulse to calculate the fuel needed from the RPM. This is the reason why a faulty sensor in a vehicle can be a huge issue, as it can lead to fuel injection system issues.

Delivering the Engine's Fuel

When you hit the accelerator in your vehicle the internal computer makes the calculation and instructs the vehicle as to how much fuel needs to be delivered to the engine. At this time, the spark plug fires, causing the injected fuel to burn. Naturally, the more fuel injected into the system the bigger the burst. It is important for the spark plug to not only be clean, but installed at the correct degree measurement to provide optimal burst. If not, this can affect the quality of the burst and your fuel efficiency. There are all sorts of variables at play when it comes to your vehicle's fuel injection system.
