Looking For A Right Hand Drive Conversion Company

By Paul Anderson

A lot of people who own an American made car will decide to turn it into a RHD model. These changes can be done as a home project using a special parts kit but the results are often quite crude and untidy. A better way is to search for a right hand drive conversion company to do the work and there are some things to consider beforehand.

Before you have a major modification carried out on your vehicle there are a few important things to think about. If the car is still covered by a manufacturer guarantee, it will not be valid after the work. If you sell the vehicle, you may not get the full price, as it will no longer be a stock model. You will also need to notify the company that insures your car and there may be some changes in your payments.

Finding a company to do your conversion is fairly simple after you have done a little shopping around. Many firms will be listed in the telephone directory, some will advertise locally in papers and magazines and others will be listed online. Speaking to a local mechanic can also produce good results and they may recommend a reputable firm.

After locating a firm to do the work on your car you will need to make an appointment to visit them with your vehicle. The engineers will look over your car and work out what work is required and they will give you a price. It is a good idea to contact a few firms to get prices to enable you to get the best deal.

After accepting a price and agreeing to the work you need to get your car to the company's premises. You can take the vehicle there or they will arrange for it to be picked up from a convenient location. There will be some paperwork to complete and you will pay a deposit and you should ensure that all of your items have been taken out of the car.

The time it takes to complete your conversion will depend on the model of car and how much work is required. The companies that specialize in RHD conversions will finish your vehicle to a very high standard. When the modifications have been carried out the car will look as though it left the factory as a right hand drive model.

When you pick up your vehicle, the engineers will explain all of the modifications, and they will give you some paperwork. These papers will include a certificate to say that the car has passed inspection and your payment receipt. It is essential that you keep this paperwork in a safe place as it may be needed if you move the car to another country or sell it.

If you discover any faults with the vehicle after you have taken it home you will need to contact the conversion firm and speak with them. It is advisable to let them do any future work on the vehicle to maintain the guarantees offered by them. If you sell or export the car and you need more documentation they will usually be able to assist you.
